THE MUSICIANS
Gülüs Gülcügil-Türkmen
(voice)
A music critic, writer, art director, graphic designer, singer and
songwriter, Gülüş has used all of her skills to produce Betty Ween and
release it with Elec-Trip Records (2004). Her band Betty Ween has
performed in several jazz festivals and venues in Turkey. Gülüş also
regularly performs with improvisation ensembles suzh as Ex-Impro and
Transsonance.

Onur Türkmen
(guitars, mandolin)
A music instructor at Istanbul Bilgi University’s Music Department and a
doctoral student at the Center for Advanced Musical Research Istanbul (MIAM),
Türkmen has worked as a composer, guitar player and/or producer in
performances and on recordings with musicians like Bob Brookmeyer, Tiger
Okoshi, Aydin Esen and Tim Hodgkinson. Lately, Onur has been organizing
New Music concerts in Istanbul, performing with several improvisation
ensembles and writing a theoritical textbook on alternative guitar tunings
for Western Modes and Turkish Maqams in just intonation.

Selen Gülün
(keyboards)
Selen Gülün is a jazz pianist and New Music composer. She has studied
composition with leading Turkish composer Ilhan Usmanbas and at the
Berklee College of Music and MIAM (Istanbul). Gülün has received a number
of awards for performance and composition, including the British Council’s
Visiting Arts, Creative Collaboration in Music Award in 2005. She
currently teaches composition at Istanbul Bilgi University. 
Robert Reigle
(tenor saxophone)
Robert Reigle is an ethnomusicologist and saxophone player who teaches at
the Center for Advanced Musical Research Istanbul (MIAM). In addition to
performing with such well-known musicians as Cecil Taylor and Tim
Hodgkinson, Robert regularly performs with leaders of the School of
Spectral Composition, Iancu Dumitrescu and Ana Maria Avram. Robert can
also be heard frequently in Istanbul with Onur Türkmen and the MIAM
Improvisation Ensemble.
Demirhan Baylan
(bass)
Multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and sound engineer Demirhan Baylan is
known mainly as the bass player of Turkey’s most popular rock band,
Bulutsuzluk Özlemi. Baylan has released numerous independent albums under
his own name and performs regularly in Turkey’s most popular festivals.
